KAYAKOY

It is known that the Ancient City of Kayaköy, also known as "Karmylassos", dates back to the Greeks. When the Greeks left the city with the war that took place in 1923, the Turks took a step to continue their life in this city. However, the Turks had difficulty in adapting to the city and the city was completely abandoned. There are two different settlements in Kayaköy, each more beautiful than the other. These settlement areas are known as “Levissi” and “Kayı Village”. The city, which was quite battered by the earthquake decision in 1957, still has not lost its importance. in addition, the fact that Yunus Nadi Abalıoğlu, a close friend of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, was born here; it can be said as another important historical side of the city. While the name of the city was called "Levissi" by the Greeks, it was called "Taşlıköy" by the Turks. Built on Lycian ruins at the end of the 19th century, the city dates back to BC. It dates back to 3000. The Lycian civilization is located on the Teke peninsula. The inhabitants of the city have lived their lives on tobacco farming, viticulture, wine production, trade and crafts. While the city population used to show an average of 2000 in the past, the city population started to increase in the 20th century due to immigration.

KAYAKOY BUILDING

Despite being destroyed, there are still magnificent structures in this city, which many people call the "ghost city" because it was hit and most of its buildings were destroyed. The Upper Church (Taksiyarhis) was built on a hill in the center of the city, and the Lower Church (Panayia Pirgiotissa) was built at the western end of the city. It is said that the school building, which is divided into two as "girls' school" and "boys' school", was built by the Lövisidi brothers. The town also has a windmill located approximately 100 meters west of the Western Chapel and a windmill located at the head of Değirmentepe to the southwest of the rock pit. Unfortunately, very few of these windmills have survived to the present day.
